Body fat and health risks

Scientifically it is proven that it is injurious to health if you comprise less amount or excess amount of body fat because obesity can lead to health hazards.

Less amount of body fat:

  • Very less amount of body fat can affect normal healthy functioning in both men and women.
  • It can lead to reproductive tribulations in women like disturbance in the menstrual cycle.

Excess amount of body fat:

  • Very excess amount of body fats raises the menace of several diseases, including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.
  • Abdominal fat encourages the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. A waist circumference of 40 inches or more in men and 35 inches or more in woman is associated with significantly increased disease risk.
  • Clinical studies have found a connection between excess body fat and the incidence of cancer. By itself, body fat is a storeroom for carcinogens in both men and women. In women, excess body fat has been related to a higher rate of breast cancer and in men, it is associated to prostate and colon cancer.
  • There is a weak balance between blood sugar, body fat, and the hormone insulin. Excess blood sugar is accumulated in the liver. But when the organs are jam-packed, the excess blood sugar is converted to fat. As fat cells themselves become full, they tend to take in less blood sugar. In obese people, the pancreas generates more insulin, which the body can’t use to regulate blood sugar levels, and the whole system becomes overwhelmed.
  • Surplus body fat is also associated to gall bladder disease, gastro-intestinal disease, sexual incompatibility, osteoarthritis, and stroke.
  • Overweight people also tend to have high cholesterol levels, making them more prone to arteriosclerosis. This becomes life threatening when blood vessels become so narrow that vital organs like the brain, heart or kidneys are deprived of blood. Moreover, the narrowing of the blood vessels forces the heart to pump harder, and blood pressure rises. About 25 percent of all heart and blood vessel problems are associated with obesity.
  • It can also lead to arthritis in hip bones or in knees.
  • Diseases linked up with excess of body fat worsen as the amount of body fat increases.

Dropping body fat cuts disease risk:

By dropping body fat percentage, you can cut down the risk of diseases. Studies illustrates that an active standard of living and its help in reducing body fat are associated with a reduced risk for some cancers like prostate in men, breast and uterine cancers in women.
