Body fat through life

It is certain that due to fluctuation in each and everything in life, body fat does not remain stable through out the life. It get transforms through different segments of a life span.

Adolescence:

  • At some point in adolescence period, noteworthy transformation takes place in body composition – both in form body fat and lean body mass.
  • Boys add more lean mass and less body fat compared to girls in adolescence.
  • Girls put on more body fat than boys during adolescence. This is perfectly normal and healthy. A female should always have a greater percentage of body fat compared to a male of equal fitness because her amount of essential fat is higher and her reproductive function requires more energy.

Adulthood or maturity age:

  • During maturity age, the healthy ranges of body fat vary for men and women.
  • The body fat ranges for women are drastically greater than for men because of the reproductive function of women.
  • The extent of percent body fat increases a little with age in both men and women.

Pregnancy:

  • It is standard and healthful for a woman to gain weight during pregnancy. Generally, a baby accounts for one third of that weight gain.
  • Fat gained during pregnancy is required to produce milk once the baby is born.
  • The baby also gains fat as pregnancy continues, especially in the last three months of the pregnancy.

Lactation:

  • In lactation, the body requires even more energy than pregnancy.
  • Even after six months post delivery, body composition may still be different from before pregnancy, especially if the woman is exclusively breast feeding her baby.

Aging:

  • Body fat amplifies as age moves on.
  • Lean body mass decline because you lose muscle mass.
  • The body’s water content reduces.
  • Bone density is diminished, sometimes due to unhealthful levels.
