Camp Carbaway - Does Camp Carbaway Work?
Camp Carbaway Overview
Camp Carbaway is, despite the name, simply a website and forum for those interested in the low-carb lifestyle.
The website’s graphics are very ‘rural’, using camp-like signs and pictures, and naming the community board ‘the Campsite’. The site has sections introducing the reader to the three Camp Carbaway founders detsiling their weight loss stories (all three were obese at one point). Other features on the site are a ‘store’ where the site promotes a variety of products. Not all these are specifically anything to do with low-carb dieting – some are simply products that the site wishes to promote or advertise.
The website does not recommend any one low-carb diet plan in particular and have links and information on many different diets including the Atkins diet, the Zone, the South Beach diet amongst others. There are links to the books associated with these diets plus links to other recommended low carb sites, general dieting and weight loss sites and personal blogs.
Camp Carbaway – Product Description
Camp Carbaway is not selling any product in particular although there seems to be some confusion as to whether the site has a sign-up fee or not. Some reviewers claim that it costs $19.95 a year to join the ‘camp’, whereas some say it is free. What is known however, is that the ‘Camp Fire’ community is by invitation only, a fact that seems to be somewhat controversial. There are many discussions to be viewed on a number of dieting forums that link Camp Carbaway with the ‘infamous’ Kimkin’ diet site. It appears that someone associated with Camp Carbaway was a former employee of Kimkin, a dangerously low calorie diet that some have claimed promotes anorexia.
In addition to this, there is a lot of talk on the internet about Camp Carbaway only inviting certain people to join, and that they ‘ban’ anyone who says anything the leaders do not agree with.
Camp Carbaway Advantage
- The site supports a low-carb lifestyle, a way of eating that is proven in causing weight loss
- The site provides links to additional low-carb sites and information
- Camp Carbaway does not promote any one low-carb diet in particular
Camp Carbaway Drawbacks
- One has to be invited to join the ‘Camp Fire’
- There may be a fee to sign up (simply for access to the whole site)
- There may be links with the controversial ‘Kimkin’ diet website
Camp Carbaway – The Bottom Line
At first viewing, the Camp Carbaway site seems to be a cute, fun way of communicating with and meeting fellow low carb dieters. However, after reading all the bad word of mouth surrounding the founders and members, it seems to be full of in-fighting and not worth becoming involved in.
For anyone interested in low-carb dieting, there are plenty other free and better known websites that feature professional advice and weight loss tools.
