Do “Diet” Foods Really Work?
20 years ago, grocery stores only sold regular foods, like fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, etc. Nowadays, there are shelves and shelves of so called “diet” foods, meant to help people lose weight while still eating foods that tastes good. Does it seem a bit funny to you that while more people are consuming these diet foods, America is currently known as the fattest country in the world? It doesn’t make much sense to me! With all of the people on diets, weight loss supplements , and the amount of exercise machines and diet foods being bought these days, this country should be the skinniest country in the world instead.
There has to be a problem somewhere, and it lies in the advertising we so willingly believe in! Before you go out to buy the latest diet food, do some research about it. Will it really help you lose weight? Will it do more harm to your body than good? Remember, advertisers have an agenda, and will most likely not tell you everything about the product they are selling. The truth is, that the majority of the diet foods out there will only hinder your weight loss.
You may have bought certain foods the last time you went grocery shopping because they were low in fat. There are a lot of different foods out there that are low in fat but somehow high in taste! If you read the nutrition facts on the label closely, you will find out that where they took the fat out, they replaced it with added sugars to make it taste just as good as the higher fat stuff. This is the reason that low fat foods still make you gain weight or at least keep you from losing any weight.
Another reason that diet foods are not good for you is because a lot of them contain aspartame and sweeteners which are man-made products that are very unhealthy for your body. Many times, if people are drinking a diet drink, they will eat whatever they want with it, thinking that the “diet” in the drink will save them! When I was 16, I worked at Mc Donald’s and I used to laugh at the people who would come in, order a double Big Mac meal, with extra large fries, and a small diet coke with it. Did they really think the diet soda would make the Big Mac healthy?
Don’t be deceived into thinking that diet foods are what you should be eating to lose weight. Most of these foods are processed and interfered with by factories until they don’t have many real food qualities left in them. The best foods to eat when you want to lose weight are natural foods. Eat lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meats, and cut back on the processed and junk foods. Start exercising regularly and you will see the extra pounds start melting away in no time. You can do it without ever going on a diet or spending more money on diet foods!
