Female Weight Loss – Why Female Weight Loss is Difficult as You Age
Many women as they age will notice that losing that it has become extremely difficult to lose those extra five or ten pounds. Women in their 20s and 30s can sometimes drop five or ten pounds in a month or so, but once women hit their 40s, 50s and 60s weight loss tends to become extremely difficult. While many health experts will tell you there is no difference, female weight loss as you age does change. Here is a look at some of the reasons why older women have difficulty when it comes to achieving those female weight loss goals.
The first reason that female weight loss becomes more difficult as you age is because of a change in bone density and muscle amount decreases. When bone density and muscle decrease the amount of calories a person burns while at rest will decrease dramatically. This is because non-muscle burns fat slower than muscle. Older women tend to consume the same caloric intake, but because their body does not burn it as fast it can lead to weight gain. This is just one of the reasons why female weight loss becomes extremely difficult as you age.
The second reason that female weight loss becomes more difficult as you age is because of a dramatic decrease in activity. Women tend to experience a dramatic decrease in activity as they age. This could be due to a number of factors including decreased energy levels or medical problems that limit mobility. A decrease in physical activity decreases the amount of calories that you burn. If you continue to intake the same amount of calories you did before the decrease in physical activity it can result in weight gain. A decrease in physical activity is the second reason why female weight loss becomes extremely difficult as you age.
The third reason that female weight loss becomes more difficult as you age is because of medications or herbal supplements you may be taking to treat certain medical conditions. Medications such as antidepressants and hormone therapies can cause weight gain. Doctors tend to put women on these types of pills and supplements as a result of medical conditions that you get as you age, and with those pills and supplements comes weight gain. Female weight loss is difficult as you age because of the combination of a decrease in bone density and muscle mass, decreased activity, and the introduction of new medications and supplements.
